[Liam] took my search upon himself and was an enthusiastic Sherlock Holmes who teased out the almost forgotten bits and pieces of oral history in our family and married them with the official records and actual landscapes. His work did not stop with research. He found one of the last relatives … and arranged a meeting. It was an emotional moment for me.
This incident and further encouragement from Liam led me to meet several other relatives in Mayo. Liam has offered advice on various Irish historical sources that will be important sources for my historical novel. Working with him was, and will continue to be, an exciting and emotional journey into our family’s past, a past we had no real idea of and a past that would not have been discovered without Liam’s personal and professional effort. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

…[Liam’s] depth of experience in historical research meant that it was fascinating to tease out fact from hearsay. This was done in a friendly way that was balanced and intriguing. His local knowledge is exceptional and his own enthusiasm was obvious for seeking out and verifying details of the family tree he had put together – he had even traced newspaper references to the time my grandfather had spent in USA.
He is a good communicator and we observed that everyone in the district knows him. Liam could not have been more helpful. He was good company and enabled us to enjoy and see far more than we ever could have achieved on our own. He was able to share his knowledge of the people, countryside, properties and made the whole experience a great adventure for us. He was an ideal guide...

Liam’s expertise, infectious enthusiasm and sense of fun, made our joint quest into the recesses of confusion of Irish archives a memorable and joyful journey. His understanding of history and how seemingly ‘ordinary people’ had an extraordinary place within that, made it something we will not forget.

[Your] report is a valuable addition to our family history records. Your knowledge of the region and history infuses the information with so many details that we feel that we know our ancestors much better. Although we could not follow the McDonnell or Jackson lines too far into the past, now we know what their lives were like and the hardships they endured.
Cecilia especially finds the report meaningful because she was able to tour the area with you. She found that reading the report, which you illustrated with pictures, brought back such good memories of walking in the footsteps of Anne and Thomas. Your expertise and empathy for our ancestors means so much to us and is exhibited throughout the report. Only your knowledge and persistence led to the great discoveries about Thomas and solid theories about the McDonnell/Jackson families. Again, we thank you for this wonderful and unique addition to our family lore.
